Where there is a need for destructive testing of any coating, ICS can perform the destructive testing.
The main types of Destructive testing that ICS carry out as required includes;-
- Adhesion testing – knife cut tests, or can use adhesion pull off tester
- PIG or TOOKE gauge (Destructive coating thickness test)
- Holiday Test (High Voltage Spark Test)
- Solvent testing
Pull-off Adhesion Testing
Adhesion pull-off testing used to measure the adhesive and cohesive strength of the coating.
ICS use an automatic DeFelsko Pull-off Adhesion Tester.
Adhesion Testing
Destructive tests for adhesion of paint coatings.
ICS can carry out both X-Cut and Cross Hatch Cut Tape Tests.
PIG / TOOKE Test
The PIG (Paint Inspection Gauge), also called a TOOKE Gauge is a destructive test to cut through the paint coating film and measure the DFT of each individual coating layer in the coating system.
Solvent Rub Test
ICS inspectors have access to solvents that can be used to define the generic type of coating.
This test is a destructive method because it softens and/or dissolves the coating where the reaction of specific solvent with the coating defines the coating type.
Holiday Testing
ICS use both Wet Sponge Holiday Test and High Voltage Spark Holiday Test.
Both methods can be considered Destructive, with the Wet Sponge Test considered not to always be destructive.
